Digital Scholarship Publications Overview

Since my resignation from the University of Houston Libraries due to a difference of opinion with the administration over what priority should be given to supporting scholarly communication change efforts, my active digital publications have been branded under the name "Digital Scholarship."

The major Digital Scholarship publications are:

  • DigitalKoans: This Weblog provides news and commentary on digital copyright, digital curation, digital repositories, open access, scholarly communication, and other digital information issues.
  • Electronic Theses and Dissertations Bibliography: This bibliography presents selected English-language articles, conference papers, and other printed and electronic sources that are useful in understanding electronic theses and dissertations (ETDs).
  • Google Book Search Bibliography: This bibliography presents selected English-language articles and other works that are useful in understanding Google Book Search. It primarily focuses on the evolution of Google Book Search and the legal, library, and social issues associated with it.
  • Institutional Repository Bibliography: This bibliography presents over 620 selected English-language articles, books, and other scholarly textual sources that are useful in understanding institutional repositories.
  • Open Access Bibliography: Liberating Scholarly Literature with E-Prints and Open Access Journals: This bibliography includes an introduction to open access and references to over 1,300 works about it.
  • Scholarly Electronic Publishing Bibliography : This bibliography is a free e-book that includes over 3,400 references to works about scholarly electronic publishing.
  • Scholarly Electronic Publishing Weblog: This Weblog provides references to new works related to scholarly electronic publishing, such as books, journal articles, magazine articles, technical reports, and white papers.
  • Tout de Suite Series: This series gives readers a quick introduction to selected topics and provides pertinent references to online documents and links to relevant Web sites (e.g., Institutional Repositories, Tout de Suite).

There are three Digital Scholarship domains:

No publications are being actively maintained on the University of Houston Libraries website, the sepw@listserv.uh.edu is no longer used, and no current publication announcements are being made on the PACS-L or PACS-P mailing lists:

  • University of Houston Libraries website: Only archival versions of SEPB (up to 10/17/2006), SEPR (up to 10/17/2006), and SEPW (up to 12/18/06). Includes The Public-Access Computer Systems Review archive.

Below are the current URLs and RSS feeds for my major publications. The ".org" links are preferred for cataloging records and Web page referrals. My intention is to try to maintain the ".org" domain; the other domains may be less permanent.

When you use the Google Search Engines, keep in mind that you will retrieve bibliography section file or Weblog archive file titles with a single representative search result shown from each file. To see all hits, click on the cached page, which shows the retrieved search term(s) in the file highlighted in yellow. Also keep in mind that the search results are only as current as Google's indexing of the site in question.
