Mean and median growth rates of IRs have increased since measured in 2007, with variance depending upon size and type of academic institution and age of the IR. Disciplinary content in IRs is unevenly distributed, with the Sciences predominantly represented. IR administrators remain actively involved in the submission process and in the promotion of their IRs. Personal contact with individuals or groups of faculty is the most used and successful interaction method.

This faculty position, reporting to the Head, Digital Collections, is primarily responsible for managing digital library workflow as part of a fast-paced and highly collaborative team. The librarian is responsible for coordinating several functional areas of a growing digital library; including: management of a digitization lab and scanning operations, digital file management and digital preservation; metadata and linked open data creation, quality control for large scale production, and administration of specialized digital asset management software (currently CONTENTdm).

More than 4.5 million researchers have signed up for ResearchGate, and another 10,000 arrive every day, says Madisch. That is a pittance compared with Facebook's 1.3 billion active users, but astonishing for a network that only researchers can join.
