Open Access Journals Bibliography
Scope Note

This bibliography presents selected English-language scholarly works that are useful in understanding open access journals. It does not cover works about e-prints or works that include open access journals in a treatment of diverse types of research materials. Most sources have been published from 1999 to the present; however, a few key sources published prior to 1999 are also included. The bibliography primarily includes books and published journal articles. A limited number of magazine articles and technical reports that are deemed to be of exceptional interest are also included. The bibliography does not cover digital media works (such as MP3 files), news articles, conference papers, editorials, interviews, letters to the editor, presentation slides or transcripts, unpublished e-prints, weblog postings, or e-mail messages.

Although open access journals intersect with a number of open access and scholarly communication topics, the Open Access Journals Bibliography only includes works that are primarily about open access journals. For example, an article dealing with the citation impact of open access journal articles would be included, but one dealing with the citation impact of e-prints would not be included.

See the author's other bibliographies for more general coverage of open access and scholarly communication issues.

The bibliography includes links to freely available versions of included works. Such links, even to publisher versions and versions in disciplinary archives and institutional repositories, are subject to change. URLs may alter without warning (or automatic forwarding) or they may disappear altogether. Inclusion of links to works on authors' personal websites is highly selective. Note that e-prints and published articles may not be identical.
