Appendix B. About the Author

Charles W. Bailey, Jr. is the Assistant Dean for Digital Library Planning and Development at the University of Houston Libraries. From 1987 to 2003, he served as Assistant Dean for Systems at the University of Houston Libraries. Previously, he served as the head of the systems department at an academic medical library, a systems librarian at a research library, a technical writer at a bibliographic utility, and a media librarian at an academic media center. He holds master's degrees in information and library science and instructional media and technology.

Since 1989, he has participated in a variety of electronic publishing projects on the Internet. He established and moderated the PACS-L mailing list. He founded and edited The Public-Access Computer Systems Review, which was a refereed electronic journal. He established and co-edited Public-Access Computer Systems News, which was an electronic newsletter. He founded and moderates the PACS-P mailing list. He contributes reviews to Current Cites. In 1993, Mr. Bailey won the first LITA/Library Hi Tech Award for his electronic publishing efforts. He was profiled in the Movers & Shakers 2003: The People Who Are Shaping the Future of Libraries supplement to the March 15, 2003 issue of Library Journal.
