Digital Scholarship: 11 Years Later

Digital Scholarship was established eleven years ago today by Charles W. Bailey, Jr. It has published open access digital and low-cost print works about digital copyright, digital curation, digital repository, open access, research data management, scholarly communication, and other digital information issues. All works have been under Creative Commons Attribution or Attribution-NonCommercial licenses.

From April 2005 through March 2016, Digital Scholarship has had over 16.4 million visitors from 232 counties, over 79 million file requests, and over 57.6 million page views. Excluding spiders, there have been over 9.9 million visitors from 232 counties, over 46.3 million file requests, and over 26 million page views.

DigitalKoans has been the most popular publication with over 12.3 million visitors, over 55.7 million file requests, and over 41 million page views. Excluding spiders, there have been over 7.5 million visitors, over 32.2 million file requests, and over 18.3 million page views. Over 7,800 DigitalKoans posts have been published, including over 375 Digital Curation News posts published since February 2013.

Bailey's Open Access Bibliography: Liberating Scholarly Literature with E-prints and Open Access Journals, which was originally published in 2005 by the Association of Research Libraries, has been another popular publication. Available as a paperback (from ARL), a PDF file, and a website with live links, it has had over 324,200 visitors, 690,900 file requests, and over 594,100 page views. Excluding spiders, there have been over 196,600 visitors, over 472,600 file requests, and over 386,200 page views.

The sequel to that book, Bailey's Transforming Scholarly Publishing through Open Access: A Bibliography (published in 2010 as a paperback, a PDF file, and a website with live links), has also been popular. it has had over 95,800 visitors, 689,000 file requests, and over 651,200 page views. Excluding spiders, there have been over 50,000 visitors, over 580,600 file requests, and over 550,500 page views.
