March 8, 2004Next Weblog update on 3/22/04.I established the Scholarly Electronic Publishing Weblog in June 2001 to provide current information about relevant new books, journal articles, and related resources between updates of the Scholarly Electronic Publishing Bibliography. Inspired by the pioneering blogging efforts of Gary Price (ResourceShelf), Peter Scott (Peter Scott's Library Blog), and others, I felt that a Web log would be a good way to meet this need, which was often expressed by SEPB users. Since then, a number of other excellent Web logs have been established (e.g., David Bigwood's Catalogablog and M. Claire Stewart's Current Copyright Readings). Of particular note is the outstanding Open Access News Web log, edited by Peter Suber. Over time, the overlap between SEPW and OAN has grown as the scope of coverage both Web logs widened, and SEPW has overlapped more with other Web logs as well. Given that these Web logs are typically daily publications, they are able to more effectively report breaking news from the many mailing lists and other information sources that I monitor than I can. Consequently, I have decided to return SEPW back to its original mission and to narrow its scope to primarily reporting new scholarly literature related to SEPB. This change will take place in the 3/22/04 SEPW. (My Scholarly Electronic Publishing Resources directory lists other high-quality Web logs that SEPW readers may also find of interest.) The ADA Monthly Intellectual Property Wrap-Up (February 2004): Copyright and other IP news from the Australian Digital Alliance.
