The Data Science Informationist collaborates with and lends support to research departments, laboratories, and individual scientists within the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus (CU Anschutz) in matters relating to data management, bioinformatics, and scientific computing. As a member of the Education and Research department, the Data Science Informationist also actively participates in instruction, reference, consultation, searching, and liaison services.

Director of Distinctive Collections and Digital Scholarship at The Claremont Colleges Services

The position is responsible for articulating a vision of the application of digital strategies to preserve, enhance and expand access to distinctive print-based collections and primary source materials. This position is also responsible for building awareness of and support for digital archives and digital repositories as well as examining strategies for the ongoing growth and stewardship of the Claremont Colleges Digital Library (CCDL) and the mailto:Scholarship@Claremont institutional repository. In addition to supervisory responsibilities for TCCL’s Digital Initiatives Coordinator and Digital Production Lead, the position has oversight over three main units within the newly-formed DCDS division: Digital Scholarship, Scholarly Communications and Open Publishing and Special Collections and Archives.

Product Manager – Octopus at Jisc

This is an exciting opportunity to develop a new, innovative open research product called Octopus. Octopus will allow researchers to publish their work for free at any stage in the research process. We are looking to recruit a product manager who is driven by the principles of open research and has the skills required to deliver this product to researchers and to grow a user base.

In the first year of the role, you will work cross-functionally to guide Octopus, an innovative research publication platform, from its launch to growing a user base and developing a sustainability plan. Developed by Dr Alexandra Freeman, Octopus breaks down the publication of scientific research into eight elements, unlike a traditional journal article.

"Data Platforms for Open Life Sciences – A Systematic Analysis of Management Instruments"

Open data platforms are interfaces between data demand of and supply from their users. Yet, data platform providers frequently struggle to aggregate data to suit their users’ needs and to establish a high intensity of data exchange in a collaborative environment. Here, using open life science data platforms as an example for a diverse data structure, we systematically categorize these platforms based on their technology intermediation and the range of domains they cover to derive general and specific success factors for their management instruments. Our qualitative content analysis is based on 39 in-depth interviews with experts employed by data platforms and external stakeholders. We thus complement peer initiatives which focus solely on data quality, by additionally highlighting the data platforms’ role to enable data utilization for innovative output. Based on our analysis, we propose a clearly structured and detailed guideline for seven management instruments. This guideline helps to establish and operationalize data platforms and to best exploit the data provided. Our findings support further exploitation of the open innovation potential in the life sciences and beyond.

Associate Archivist for Digital Preservation at Cranbrook Academy of Art and Cranbrook Art Museum

The Associate Archivist for Digital Preservation works closely with the Head Archivist to ensure long-term viability of the Archives’ digital content, playing a significant role in building and sustaining strategies for continued preservation and access. This position will liaise with Cranbrook’s Information Technology team, bringing technical expertise in digital preservation infrastructures needed to maintain preservation standards and mitigate the risk of loss of historical content.

First Issue of the Journal of Open Educational Resources in Higher Education Published

We are pleased to present the inaugural issue of the Journal of Open Educational Resources in Higher Education (JOERHE). As academic librarians, the three of us intersect with Open Educational Resources, open access, and open publishing in a variety of ways. Drawing on our past experiences with both traditional and open publishing models, we saw a need to create a dedicated, open scholarly space for those who wish to engage in community and scholarly conversation about all things open. It is exciting to see this idea come to fruition. JOERHE’s vision is to reduce the barriers to publication and create a space where authors, reviewers, and readers can build a community that supports and encourages the growth of the profession through kindness to one another as scholars. We also seek to provide transparency in our publishing practices through clear and frequent communication with our authors, reviewers, and readers.
